Celebrating 68 years of pioneering.

In 1950, Kenneth (Ken) Sale left his job at Burroughs Business Machines and started his own company. Ken’s son, Barry was more interested in selling new machines rather than just repairing existing machines.

The business grew as they started selling Burroughs Adding Machines and Cash Registers, but they needed more products to expand the business further.

In 1969 Barry traveled to Japan and met with Citizen Watch company who had started making Adding Machines and Cash Registers. Citizen gave Goodson the agency to sell their products in Australia and today, over four decades on, Goodson Imports is proudly still the sole Australian agent for Citizen Business Machines.

In February 1966 Australia changed to decimal currency and everyone wanted their accounting machines changed or replaced. In Barry’s words, “There just weren’t enough machines available. We seized the opportunity and virtually worked every waking hour converting machines from Pounds, Shillings and Pence to Dollars and Cents. This was a tremendous boost to our business.”

In the ‘90’s, Goodson were approached by Samsung to import and sell their Cash Registers exclusively in Australia.

New computer technology brought on continued change and in 1994 Australia Post decided to go from just selling stamps to becoming fully mechanised and introduce bill receipts and Accounting services. It became the largest retail operation in Australia’s history, and Goodson were heavily involved.

Goodson was fortunate enough to win the contract to supply all the Cash Drawers and Printers to Australia Post and this helped to build the Goodson reputation as a major supplier in Retail (POS) Point of Sale systems in the country.

In 2000, GST was introduced by John Howard and this became another golden opportunity for the business.
